The second generation of the Corvette Sting Ray debuted in 1963, introducing the iconic C2 as an aerodynamically optimized sports car with updated styling, and improved steering, braking, and suspension systems. This 1964 example is powered by a 327ci 365HP V8 engine donated from a 1965 C2 and mated to a Borg-Warner 4-speed manual transmission. Previously listed on PCARMARKET, this Sting Ray is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Florida.
The C2 Corvette was originally designed by Larry Shinoda with inspiration from the original Corvette XP-87 Sting Ray racing concept car of 1959. Factory finished in Riverside Red, this C2 has been professionally resprayed in its current shade of Glen Green Metallic. It is offered with a matching hard top and currently rides on 15” wheels with factory faux-spinner hub caps and new American Classic whitewall tires. The seller notes a new canvas top was fitted and slight paint imperfections are present. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.
The cabin, originally two-tone white and red vinyl, has been reupholstered in black leather to complement the exterior finish. Factory equipment includes a central analog clock, a locking glovebox, a center console armrest, a reverse-lockout shifter, a heater, manual window cranks, polished door sill moldings, and a wood-rimmed three-spoke steering wheel. The seller adds that a new factory-look sound system and radio have been fitted, and the added air conditioning unit is in proper working order. The original radio is said to be included in the sale.
Power is provided by an upgraded 327ci V8 engine from a 1965 C2 (engine #18J220462/T0307HM) featuring an 11.0-1 compression ratio and a 4-barrel carburetor. The seller states the "HM" designation makes this engine particularly rare for 1965 models, as it signifies that the 365 HP engine was fitted with both transistorized ignition and air conditioning, a combination found in only a limited number of special high performance units produced. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a Borg-Warner 4-speed manual transmission. The seller adds that an upgraded braking system has been installed, the car was fully insulated, and a new carburetor has been fitted. The original carburetor is said to accompany the sale.
This sale will include a Florida vehicle registration, a hard top, the original radio, the original carburetor, and a car cover.
