Finished in Signal Red, this 1963 Porsche 356C Coupe was sold new in Burbank, California, and remained with its second owner in Monterey Park from 1968 until the current owner’s purchase in 1988, when it was imported to Germany. The car was modified with a new 2.4-liter engine custom-built by Klaus Motoren about 4 years ago, featuring a Weber 40 IDF carburetor and a stainless-steel exhaust. Accompanied by the original 1,600cc engine, this 2.4-powered 356C Coupe is now being offered for auction by its longtime owner in Germany. Click here to view the previous PCARMARKET listing.
The Signal Red Karmann bodywork is decorated with removable Lufthansa, Shell, Heuer, and Goodyear vintage racing decals. Equipment includes body-colored bumpers with chrome overriders, chrome trim, a polished driver’s side mirror, a twin-grille rear decklid, vent windows, a rear valence with dual center-mounted tailpipes, and 15” chrome wheels with Porsche-crested hubcaps. Additional images are provided in the gallery.
The cabin is appointed with black vinyl upholstery, charcoal square weave carpeting, and a body-colored dashboard fascia. Accessories include front bucket seats, folding rear seatbacks, a three-spoke steering wheel, analog VDO instrument dials, a dashboard clock, and a Blaupunkt pushbutton radio.
A replacement 2.4-liter flat-four engine was built and installed by Klaus Motoren about 4 years ago, featuring an oil pan extension, a Weber 40 IDF carburetor, double ball bearing throttle linkage, an electric fuel pump, stainless-steel headers, and a stainless-steel sport muffler. The engine produces a claimed output of 180 HP and is paired with an original 4-speed manual transaxle. The seller indicates approximately 8k kilometers have been driven on the replacement engine, and the original 1,600cc engine is included in the sale.
This sale will include a German registration, service records, a black California license plate, and the original engine.
The seller would like you to know: “The Porsche is accident-free, and no welding work has been carried out on the vehicle. It presents itself as an extremely well-maintained, almost new car. The paintwork, instruments, and interior are immaculate.”

That's pretty amazing for a 62-year old 356!

@Cherche-pepite The odometer has not been rolled over. The total mileage is approximately 70,000 km.
Thanks, that's pretty amazing for a 62-year old car!
@bigguy10 Yes
@Cherche-pepite The odometer has not been rolled over. The total mileage is approximately 70,000 km
So, you're saying that I should be looking at 92,588 kms - 22,000 kms = about 70,600 kms?
Can you just confirm that if the car hits reserve than the owner will pay shipping to a port of choice in the United States?
Yes, I did that. And 37,772 miles = about 60,800 kms. Plus the 31,788 kms on the current odometer = 92,588 kms. The current odometer has never been "rolled over"?
Thanks very much.
@Cherche-pepite Correction: the previous calculation is incorrect. The total mileage is approximately 70,000 km.
@Cherche-pepite Please refer to the last two photos to see the original U.S. speedometer. The current speedometer was installed over 35 years ago, showing 22,000 km at that time. Since then,has been added just over 9,000 km.
Looks like the odometer for the U.S. market had the equivalent of about 60,000 kms on it when it was swapped out. So, that, plus what the current odometer is showing, would suggest that the car has less than 91,000 kms in total unless the more recent odometer has turned over . . .?
Gut ! And what about the change in speedometers/odometers?
@Cherche-pepite The car is in excellent condition and requires no further work. It is fully prepared for use and can be driven confidently over long distances, including a journey from Göttingen to Bordeaux, without any concerns.
I assume you changed the speedometer at some point after the car was imported from the U.S. back to Europe?
Do you know how many miles were on the original odometer before it was switched out? And how many kms have been put on the "new" odometer since it was installed?
Is there anything that still needs to be done on the car in your opinion? Or could one drive it from Gottingen to, say, Bordeaux, France!?!
@NWIC (seller)
Thanks very much for your quick answers. GLWA!
@Cherche-pepite Hello
Spare wheel it's there
Clock it's perfectly working
Radio it's original one , what you've see in the photos it's just a phone charger
The car has 160hp ... the 180 advertised must be a mistake
Fully repainted 8 years ago
Hope this will help
Owned for 37 years
Hello dear buyers . Additional photos with the original miles speedometer has been added to the gallery and they will be coming with the car

Sorry, I found the photo showing 12V decal.
Do you have the spare wheel and tire?
Does the clock work?
It looks like you've made the radio Bleutooth and Apple compatible. Is that correct?
119 kW is really closer to 159 hp than to 180, is it not?
When and where was it repainted?
How long has the current proprietor owned the car?
Thanks very much.
I can't tell on this fine-looking car but has its electrical system been changed from 6V to 12V?

@bigguy10 a tool kit and a cover will came with the car . I need to check about the seat
Are their any other parts in the warehouse like the original driver seat, tool kit etc.. that hasn't been mentioned?
@bigguy10 the original engine it’s fully refurbished 3 years before the 2.4 has been fitted and it’s in the warehouse ! Owner is on holiday so unfortunately we can’t provide any photos
What’s the condition of the original engine and has it ever been rebuilt? Can you provide a picture of the original engine?
Yes, now I see the VW pics; interesting shroud… not my cup
Of tea but I see you include original motor , nice looking car
I believe this is a highly modified Type 4 VW motor.
Polo Motors were engineered by Dean Polopolus in California. Polo Motors Inc offered the best in German American engineering in the form of an all new 4 cylinder motor based on factory911 air cooled engines.
@airpower it’s this a joke or a joke ?
This is a polo motor or VW?
