Finished in Signal Red, this 1963 Porsche 356C Coupe was sold new in Burbank, California, and remained with its second owner in Monterey Park from 1968 until the current owner’s purchase in 1988, when it was imported to Germany. The car was modified with a new 2.4-liter engine custom-built by Klaus Motoren about 4 years ago, featuring a Weber 40 IDF carburetor and a stainless-steel exhaust. Accompanied by the original 1,600cc engine, this 2.4-powered 356C Coupe is now being offered for auction by its longtime owner in Germany.

The Signal Red Karmann bodywork is decorated with removable Lufthansa, Shell, Heuer, and Goodyear vintage racing decals. Equipment includes body-colored bumpers with chrome overriders, chrome trim, a polished driver’s side mirror, a twin-grille rear decklid, vent windows, a rear valence with dual center-mounted tailpipes, and 15” chrome wheels with Porsche-crested hubcaps.

The cabin is appointed with black vinyl upholstery, charcoal square weave carpeting, and a body-colored dashboard fascia. Accessories include front bucket seats, folding rear seatbacks, a three-spoke steering wheel, analog VDO instrument dials, a dashboard clock, and a Blaupunkt pushbutton radio.

A replacement 2.4-liter flat-four engine was built and installed by Klaus Motoren about 4 years ago, featuring an oil pan extension, a Weber 40 IDF carburetor, double ball bearing throttle linkage, an electric fuel pump, stainless-steel headers, and a stainless-steel sport muffler. The engine produces a claimed output of 180 HP and is paired with an original 4-speed manual transaxle. The seller indicates approximately 8k kilometers have been driven on the replacement engine, and the original 1,600cc engine is included in the sale.

This sale will include a German registration, service records, a black California license plate, and the original engine.

The seller would like you to know: “The Porsche is accident-free, and no welding work has been carried out on the vehicle. It presents itself as an extremely well-maintained, almost new car. The paintwork, instruments, and interior are immaculate.”

@Cessna182t The 15% tariff on cars imported from Europe has been proposed as part of a trade agreement, but it requires approval from EU member states and the European Parliament before it can be finalized. As of now, it is not yet fully implemented.

@ppalmer The process is really simple. Since the 356 is a classic, it’s exempt from all the modern EPA and safety rules. All you need to do is take the German title, the bill of sale, and the U.S. Customs paperwork down to your DMV. They’ll check the VIN, and then issue you a clean U.S. title in your name.

  • ppalmer (registered bidder) 1 monthago

How do you you get a title ?

@dsdepew the changeover happened roughly in mid-1963, with the 356 C taking over as the new model for the remainder of the 356’s production cycle (1964-1965) until the 911 replaced it. The model 356C is stated in the TUV of the car

  • dsdepew (registered bidder) 1 monthago

Very clean car! Really like the custom touches and the increased HP must be wonderful.

I thought the C series of 356 was only ‘64 & ‘65? Is there documentation specifying this is a C and not a B? Thanks!

  • NWIC (seller) 1 monthago

@Geschwindigkeit the engine it’s build by Klaus Motors in Germany
The KLAUS engine is based on the Type 4 engine's crankcase. The engine's peripherals, as well as its crankshaft and valve train, have been modified and further developed over the past 30 years. Over the years, they’ve developed a variety of groundbreaking parts. The concept of the milled engine housing for the fan ring mount and the intake silencer has proven particularly successful
You will find on the photos the technical details attached
    It’s a fun to drive it !

  • Geschwindigkeit (registered bidder) 1 monthago

Can you please provide more detail on the engine build.

  • NWIC (seller) 1 monthago

@kcarlos Import duties are just 2.5% . For vehicles over 25 years old, shipping costs are surprisingly manageable — making classic car imports far more attainable than many expect.

  • kcarlos (registered bidder) 1 monthago

Anyone have any info on importing from Germany. I wonder how the current administrations tariffs will effect this.

  • A65 (registered bidder) 1 monthago

    Thanks for your reply.
Can you please post a driving video from inside the car so I can see shifting and if it drives and brakes well?
Any compression/leakdown checks you can share?
Any new drive train or steering components?
    Thank you.
