In September of 1959, Porsche revealed their fully updated 356 known as the 356B. Along with the updated styling came the new Type 616/7 Super 90 engine. This 1963 Karmann-built example comes finished in Silver Metallic over a reupholstered blue leather interior and features a Type 616/7 1600cc flat-four-cylinder engine paired with a 4-speed manual gearbox. It is said to have been acquired by the seller several years ago from its previous owner out of Arizona and subsequently treated to fresh paint, a reupholstered interior, a later model transaxle, and an engine refresh. Accompanied by documentation of matching engine numbers along with a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, this 356 Super 90 is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Oklahoma.
This 356 has been refinished in its factory-specified color of Silver Metallic (6206). The seller notes that the car was fully disassembled, and the glass was removed before it was refinished. Imperfections are said to be minimal, and a layer of ceramic coating was recently applied. It rides on a set of 15” steel wheels with chrome hubcaps and Goodyear Eagle Touring tires. Additional images can be found in the gallery.
The cabin has been reupholstered in blue leather which is complimented by a body-colored dashboard and grey square weave carpeting. Amenities include a VDO analog clock, roll-up windows, a locking glove box, and opening front 3/4 vent windows. The seller states that the cabin is in very nice overall condition and confirms that all gauges, electronics, and accessories remain functional.
Power comes from a Type 616/7 1600cc flat-four 90 HP engine. At its release Type 616/7 featured a new intake manifold, a larger Solex 40 PII-4 carburetor, Carrera air filters, 9.0:1 pistons, stronger valve springs, and a different crankshaft with 55mm main bearings. The rear wheels are driven by way of a 4-speed manual transmission. The seller notes that the car retains its original engine number matching engine and that the transaxle was sourced from a later car. Within the last 100 miles, a full service was carried out including a refresh of the engine.
This sale will include a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity and a clean title.
The seller would like you to know: "This is a super nice refreshed survivor example of a 1963 356B S90, and it looks as good in person as it does in the supplied pics, along with being a super nice driver. This car was just pulled out of a very nice collection, so it has been serviced. I have personally put 100+ miles on the car after its service, and it drives like it should."

Do you have pics of the passenger side engine grille serial number. Or passenger side door a pillar? I believe Reutter's will have this
Bid in the amount of $77,000
@Brod If you are referring to picture #95 that is the controller for the fresh air vents and only has the lower lever unless 1. fresh air blower is installed or 2. Gas Webasto Heater is installed.
@Brod No Rust in the window frames, the exhaust does go through the bumperettes, heater works “and other examples I have see had one slide”,
Driving to California from Oklahoma? Or local driving fun? Local driving fun, Definitely Yes. Quality to drive from Oklahoma to California? Yes, and I guess it wouldn’t be any different than a Vintage Road Rally Cruise event, but not sure I would personally want to do that if I didn’t have to. If you like Adventure, then I would say Go For It.
I was looking at the glass around both sides of window and not sure if that is rust in the frame ? also on heater switch the one above seems to be missing. Could you tell me about the exhaust I am used to seeing the tail pipes out the bumpers ? Its a very nice car !! I live in California. do you think the car is up to the drive ? really appreciate your feed back.

@dougdadmac Funny thing is, the Reserve is so reasonable that all of those small things don’t matter, because you have plenty of room to make it your own.
We all know that Survivor Body Conditions means most of all, and the Number Matching S90 optioned motor is also a nice value and interest bump.
Photo #85 shows a Reutter Karosserie plaque but body is Karmann. Also missing the Karmann badge on right fender. Details details details.

Nice original color scheme not often seen. 180 from the last T6B built a few weeks before the C production started. Hood seal installed wrong but an easy cheap fix.
Thankyou.

Most know what this car is going to bring I know what a 356 SC is worth but this looks to be a nice example w/o the sunroof. The issue is what this dealer will cut this loose for and what this will be worth in two years The competition is CD rates. Tough call.

@Heffel Not sure if we are allowed to post, but message Pcar and give them your number to get me, and I will shoot you a call.
Do you have a phone number so I can communicate directly with a few questions?

@rikhumps Here is the writeup from the shop who refreshed the body.
The body was solid and appears to retain the original floors and longitudinals underneath. The all-important understructures are very solid and the floorpans just have minor dents from errant lifts and floor. The battery area of the front trunk floor was replaced with a metal repair part from Stoddard Porsche. This car was amazingly rust free and shows it was never exposed to salt. There were a small line of corrosion blisters in front of the r/h door, typical in these Porsches. We had those cut out and replaced with metal and then properly leaded in before the respray.
Had a 62 and it was a rust bucket, Any rust ???
@240zGuild Sorry for being that pedantic jerk, but whatever settings you had on your iphone for some of the photos definitely skewed (distorted) the actual shape and contours of the photo, and therefore the object within (ie, your very beautiful 356). Some photos, on the other hand are 'flat' and 'true'.
Just look at the shape of the doorway, or anything else, in photo 88 89 90
Sorry again. just a pet peeve of mine that I see very frequently (can never un-see it) Great car though.
Bid in the amount of $13,560
@Somer All the refresh work was done before going into the previous owners collection several years ago, and the services done to the car to make ready from its display slumber was done by myself as I have been driving it.
There are a few hundred miles on the car before display, and I guess the wording wasn’t done correctly on the listing when I reported my personal after service miles.
Was the paint work done by you or PO? It states the engine had a "refresh" within 100 miles. Can you tell more?
Bid in the amount of $10,101

@pcbill These pics and video were actually done with just an IPhone, and the only editing done was cropping when necessary, so no fancy lenses or filters here.
As far as the many different perspectives/angles go, I insist on doing that so people can see the contours and shading of the paint/body, because it does help honestly showcase the car in ways you could if seeing it in person. I offer the shots I would want to see if I was buying the car myself, and these shots are important to show how well this metallic lay down is in what is an often blotchy color if not sprayed right.
Sorry it isn’t to your liking, but I do want to make sure the car is show correctly at All Angles.
Mind blowing to me that so many people insist on photographing with a distorted perspective lens.
Can't understand how anybody thinks this helps in showing-off the car and it's naturally beautiful lines.
But I'm sure it's a beautiful car.
Beautiful car!

@240zGuild. Tell that to my wife! LOL
