This 1963 Porsche 356B Coupe was acquired by the current owner in 1993 and subsequently rebuilt as a tribute to the 356B 2000 GS/GT Carrera. It features custom carbon fiber body panels, Plexiglas windows, fixed-back bucket seats, a roll cage, dash-mounted stopwatches, upgraded disc brakes, and Bilstein shocks, along with a rebuilt engine including an LN Engineering Nickies piston/cylinder 88mm big bore kit, custom-ground cam, and a twin-plug ignition system. Accompanied by over 200 invoices detailing the no-expense-spared build, this custom 356B is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Florida.
After spending some years as a race car, this 356B was completely stripped and refinished in silver along with the installation of custom carbon fiber quarter panels, doors, a center-fill hood, and a rear decklid. The car features lightweight Plexiglas rear and side windows, a louvered rear valence, front hood straps, fog lights, headlamp grilles, and dual mirrors molded into the front fenders. It rides on silver 15” slotted wheels dressed in Vredestein Sprint Classic tires from 2009. The seller notes a small spot of paint blistering on the front fender near the hood and the tires show approximately 60% tread remaining. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.
The black vinyl interior has been outfitted with a full roll cage along with lightweight door panels and a pair of fixed-back bucket seats. Other accessories include a wood-rimmed three-spoke steering wheel, Carrera 2 GS/GT lap belts, lightweight door latches, a central oil pressure gauge, dash-mounted stopwatches, and dual rally odometers.
Power is derived from a Type 616/15 flat-four engine (#746339) which has been fitted with a custom 4-Cam style carbon fiber fan shroud. Upgrades include fortifications to the engine with an LN Engineering Nickies piston/cylinder 88mm big bore kit, custom-ground cam, and a twin-plug ignition system. The rear wheels are driven by way of a 4-speed manual Type 741/2C transmission. The car also features upgraded four-wheel disc brakes with stainless-steel lines as well as Bilstein shocks, a front fender-mounted oil cooler, and an adjustable front sway bar.
This sale will include a jack, a toolkit, a clean title, and an extensive collection of records.
The seller would like you to know: “This car was built to resemble the rare GS GT. At a fraction the cost of the real thing, it's much more fun to own and drive.”

@racercmc the front tires rub just a bit. However there is full steering range. It just barely rubs when the steering is at full rotation.
Wow! is that 205 on the rear tires, 5 1/2 inch rim? Do any of the tires rub at all?
@lugbolt Good eye. The gauge is broken being replaced.
What’s up with the speedo reading 38mph standing still?
@Yopurp that’s correct. And the quarter panels.

HP approximately sounds a bit much. some old dyno chart? but a very nice car!
looks like a nice build, then there are always small details that suit different people, but clearly nice and looks very well built, they have taken many hours to put this together and thought, it apres as a really honest build car with a nice presentation, a slightly more aggressive driving video would probably not hurt sales here! what does it give in HP approximately? would be interesting to see the close red line 7000RPM, then I will consider bidding! Building something similar will take 1-2 years and 1000-1500 hours.

@draab29 I think the best approach would be to put factory handles on if you want to latch it from the outside. However, it is possible to simply slide the window from the outside. It is just plexiglass floating in slides. And there is enough resistance to hold it up. It wont be thief proofs, but it will keep the rain out.
@Yopurp There are a lot of receipts, and it is quite intricate sorted between what was on the car, and what is on the car now. There are pages of detailed descriptions of work done within the many labor receipts. It would be hard to explain it all but essentially, the roll cage was put in very early on to race. After racing a few years the roll cage was modified at the door entrances. The bars were removed to allow normal access to the seats. Some years later, the doors, lids and quarters had molds splashed on them and carbon parts were made. Around this time the car went grey, then a few years later silver.
The fuel system is simple. Fuel cell in front with baffling foam ( the foam is still good, and filter is not clogged...I checked in the tank and the filter just before this listing ) Electronic fuel pump feeds dual Solex Pii-40 carbs. As to the seats, it would be safe to assume they are re-pops.
@WilsonCollection Haha, Thanks for the reply. Would certainly be fun to grab groceries in this 356. I guess I was thinking about a mechanism to keep the doors closed with the windows up, during a weekend long vintage Porsche rally, when the cars are parked in a hotel lot overnight. Is that possible on this car? I only see an interior toggle with a receiver on the door Jamb. Thanks
@tubby356 Thank you for catching that mistake. It appears you're correct, and more specifically it is a 1966 912 motor from what I am finding. Does that show true from your findings? As to the 741/2C transmission, I do not know what the 2 designates. I know 741/C were the third generation 741's. It is kind of hard to see in the internet photo, but the transmission is stamped 741/2C. You can kind of see it in photo 215. I hope this helps!
@draab29 Haha you don't! It's not the car to take to the grocery store.

Can you elaborate more on the various receipts and what you do know about the late builder? Also, any details about the fuel system (looks awfully custom). Seats are real or re-pops?
Bid in the amount of $44,000
@WilsonCollection. What a beautiful 356! This build looks really well done. I love the GS/GT Carrera touches. I'm sure the answer is obvious, but I'll ask anyway. How do you open the doors, from outside the car, with the windows up?
Nice car would like to own it. But I am a little confused, you state the engine is 616/15 which is a 64 push rod engine. But this looks dressed up as a carrera engine. But have not found engine number they go up to 731102. The trans for that engine is a 741C . I do not know what 7412C is. Would appreciate a like more detail. Just found engine number its a 912. Thanks Guy
Bid in the amount of $30,000
@witz And yes there are countless hours in this car
@witz Yes, Solex 40 Pii-4 Single shaft. As to the displacement, it should be around 1900c however, I can't definitively say because a lot of information about the engine build was lost.
A lot of work went into this project. I see all the custom details with the drilled rotors and front oil cooler. Is motor running solex’s? 88mm barrels , so is this around 1900cc’s?
@digit3 Haha no worries. It's unclear at this point how much power it has. The gentleman who built the car passed away, and we can't find records of the dyno. We estimate 150 - 170 hp.
@digit3 My bad, just saw the scale photos!
I realize that it may be rude to ask, but do you know how much she weighs? Have you had it on a dyno? Very cool!
Hello everyone. If anyone has any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
