Having been in production for more than six decades, the original Volkswagen Beetle boasts unique styling and has earned acclaim as one of the most culturally influential cars in history. Part of the second generation of the iconic Beetle, this 1962 Type 1 example features an upgraded 1,600cc flat-four and has been refinished in Gulf Blue over a Basalt Grey/Silver Beige leatherette reupholstered by Wolfsburg West. Reportedly a lifelong California car, this Beetle is now being offered for auction.
This Beetle is said to have been refinished in its factory-specified shade of Gulf Blue just a few years ago. Chrome brightwork spans the bumpers, moldings, antenna, driver-side mirror, headlight and turn signal bezels, windshield wipers, and door handles. It rides on 15” steel wheels powder-coated in grey with chrome hubcaps, including OEM front wheels with Nankang tires and upgraded 8” deep-dish rear wheels with Hankook Ventus tires. Minor signs of road wear are noted including three paint chips at the front end, and detailed images are provided in the gallery.
The cabin has been reupholstered by the specialists at Wolfsburg West with Basalt Grey and Silver Beige leatherette upholstery, a new headliner, and new vinyl floor coverings. The Gulf Blue painted dashboard is contrasted with a white-finished steering wheel and chrome accents. Equipment includes roll-up windows, a passenger-side grab handle, and a locking glovebox. The seller adds that the shifter knob was recently replaced and a door pull was added under previous ownership. All rubber seals have been replaced, wiring harnesses have been upgraded, about 1-1/2” of stitching is pulling apart at the headliner, and the radio & windshield wipers are currently disconnected. All other gauges, electronics, and accessories are reported to be working properly.
Power was upgraded with the installation 1,600cc flat-four engine upon the seller’s acquisition, paired with a replacement Wright Gearbox 4-speed manual transaxle which was installed under previous ownership. The seller adds that a 4” narrow adjustable front beam with disc brakes and rear drop spindles have been installed in addition to a 12V battery system. Regular oil changes are said to have been carried out, and the seller notes a very slight oil leak is present.
This sale will include a clean title and an original spare wheel.
The seller would like you to know: “This is a complete, honest overview of the vehicle. When I purchased the vehicle, I made the purchase solely based on enjoying the vehicle as a reliable Daley driver. Yes, it looks nice and it’s a header. Yes, there are slight imperfections in the paint. No, it’s not 100% perfect but the buyer will be happy with the vehicle. It has never left me stranded on the side of the road. I always keep up with the maintenance on it, I will answer any questions. May also have a video that I can send to anyone interested in seeing the motor"

Drove it many times up to the Mountains of Big Bear Ca
And Solvang Ca that’s 5 hrs from me without an issue

You are correct. Black fender beading was standard on newer models.
FYI
The rubber piping on fenders are not overspray or painted. Those are original color rubber matching from Wolfsburg West in Southern California.
Put on there to the original look of the car not black
@Fredo a VW guy would know it’s not supposed to be black
@Fredo the rubber wasn’t painted!
It’s the color piping that would had came with the car originally,
Piping is blue from Wolfsburg West
One suggestion to the next owner of this lovely car to improve the cosmetics, and give it more of an original look. Replace the blue piping with black rubber piping, between the fenders and body that was over sprayed when the car was repainted.
