A derivative of the highly exclusive 300SL Roadster, the Mercedes-Benz 190SL debuted at the 1954 New York Auto Show with similar styling, suspension, and engineering as well as a new 1.9-liter inline-four engine based on the 300SL’s straight-six. This 1962 example is said to have remained within the same family since new and benefits from a previous overhaul of the engine and brake system as well as replacements of the water pump, fuel pump, and alternator. This iconic Mercedes-Benz exhibits a charming natural patina and is now being offered for auction at no reserve by its seller out of New York.
The 190SL shares its basic styling with the 300SL Roadster including its distinctive fender flares, bumper design, and single-bar front grille with a central Mercedes-Benz emblem. This example is finished in its factory-specified color of White (DB-050) with matching hubcaps and a black convertible top. The exterior shows imperfections including some paint chips and bubbling, rusted chrome trim, windshield delamination, and wear on the convertible top. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.
The cabin is lined with red carpeting and features matching leather upholstery covering the seats, door panels, and upper dashboard. A white-two spoke steering wheel is mounted ahead of a body-colored dash fascia which houses analog VDO gauges, a quartz clock, heater controls, and a “190 SL” logo radio compartment cover.
Power comes from a Type M121 SOHC inline 4-cylinder engine with original twin-choke dual Zenith carburetors. The rear wheels are driven by a fully synchronized 4-speed manual gearbox. The seller notes the engine, carburetors, and braking system were rebuilt some years ago and the alternator has been replaced along with the fuel pump, water pump, and some hoses. The seller describes the car to be in good running order, although the tires need to be replaced. The car is currently available for viewing and pre-purchase inspections at the PCARMARKET headquarters in New York.
This sale will include a clean title and some service records as well as a new replacement steering wheel.
The seller would like you to know: “This has been one family-owned for the life of the car. It is all original and all matching, the engine was rebuilt several years ago the carburetors were rebuilt. The carburetors are original. The brake system was also done along with many other things. I also adjusted the alternator and water pump and replaced some hoses. The car runs and drives well, and shifts good. Cosmetically it's in fair condition. The paint appears to be the original car and it will need new tires. Mechanically the car is in good condition.”

It’s not original paint
Car definitely looks to have been repainted. Overspray on lots of areas and cracks and bubbles underneath the paint indicating some potential issues underneath. Have you taken a magnet to the suspect areas?
Does it have the original engine in it?

@EZPZ123Z hi, it’s just on the corners of the driver side and passenger windshield, just on the very edge is it’s very minor, it doesn’t affect any type of deal or anything, Ty
It’s a little hard to tell from the pics and video, but how severe is the windshield delaminating? I’m pretty sure it isn’t repairable so just wondering if new glass will be necessary. Beautiful car GLWA!

I just wanted to introduce myself give a quick rundown on the car. I purchased the car from a family that had the car for pretty much the life of the car. They put a lot of money and time in the car, it comes with lots of records and lots of documentation, very very cool, collectible car. It also comes with the original stereo and a replacement steering wheel. I replaced a few things when I got it but I didn’t have to do too much. Car runs and drives good, nice cruiser. If Anybody has any questions please feel free to reach out all PPIs and inspections are welcome. Also thank you for viewing.
