Among the Austin-Healey 3000 series, the Mk II BN7 stands as the rarest model with a production limited to 355 units. This 1962 example, accompanied by a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust, was completed on August 30, 1961, and dispatched to A. Bruggeman & Co, GMBH, in Düsseldorf, Germany, on September 25, 1961. Acquired by the automotive specialists of Abacus of Hampton Roads (or Abacus Racing) in 2000, it underwent a meticulous restoration, encompassing a refinish in its factory-specified combination of off-white and black over black upholstery. Its equipment includes wire wheels with octagonal lug nuts, overdrive, a heater, a laminated windscreen, and a Continental exhaust system. Stored in a climate-controlled facility as part of an Austin-Healey collection, it has been regularly driven and well-maintained since the restoration, with approximately 2,500 miles driven since the restoration. This exceptional BN7 is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Virginia.
The roadster presents a sleek, low-profile silhouette, highlighted by a distinct oval grille, chrome bumpers and trim, large round headlights, a long sculpted bonnet with a prominent hood scoop, and a laminated windscreen. As part of the complete restoration, this example was refinished in the factory two-tone off-white and black configuration. The hard top comes finished in black and features a wraparound rear window, while other details include a bullet-style driver’s side mirror, fog lights, and a twin exhaust outlet. It rides on 15” wire wheels with octagonal lug nuts and Pirelli P5 Cinturato radial tires from 1988, reportedly kept in showroom condition. Additional images are provided in the gallery.
The two-seater cockpit includes black bucket seats with white contrast piping and a matching center armrest. The black theme extends to the door panels, dashboard, carpeting, and rear parcel shelf. Additional equipment includes a three-spoke wood-rimmed steering wheel, a matching shift knob, Smiths instrumentation, a heater, a dashboard-mounted rearview mirror, a passenger’s side grab handle, and chrome accents. All gauges and accessories are confirmed to be in proper working order, and the seller notes the odometer was reset to zero upon completion of the restoration.
This 3000 Mk II is powered by a 2,912cc C-Series inline-six engine. As part of its mechanical rebuild, upgraded triple Weber carburetors and a lighter aluminum radiator with improved cooling were fitted. As much as 132 HP and 167 lb.-ft of torque are sent to the rear wheels, driven through a 4-speed manual transmission, allowing for a top speed of approximately 115 MPH. Additional performance features include Girling front disc brakes and an optional overdrive system. The seller states there are no outstanding maintenance items, and confirms the engine and transmission to be original. The British Motor Industry Heritage Trust is provided in the gallery for viewing.
This sale will include a clean title, owner’s manuals, a spare tire, a toolkit, and a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate.

Hello everyone. We are unable to get a driving video and undercarriage photos done before the close of auction. I apologize for the inconvenience. The engine has not been converted to lead free gas. It is an entirely original example except for the webers and the radiator upgrade for enhanced cooling. There is no build or spec sheet on the engine other than that it has undergone a complete restoration and rebuild. Thank you.
Has the engine been converted to lead free gas?

Any comment on any modifications done to the engine except for the triple Weber's. I may cancel my bid if no information is forthcoming. I'm sure the reserve price is more than my bid.

The specs on what was done to the engine, besides the three Webers, anything else done, camshaft, over-bore, etc.
I understand the "reserve is hidden", but I wondered if there is a "buy it now" price.
Beautiful car…build sheet for the engine? Undercarriage pictures? Driving video? Thanks.
@Bonefish - this car does come with the soft top but not the tonneau cover. The car is still owned by Abacus in our showroom, but is not a racing example. It is a road-going restoration with engine enhancements for cooling and road performance.
Question: This car was formerly owned by Abacas Racing, has the been this car set up for racing and has it been raced?
Wow—includes a super-rare hardtop for the 2-seat body. Love-it, beautiful car!
Does it have the convertible top and frame as well as the tonneau cover?
Does it the softtop as well and a tonneau cover?

@autobahn22 absolutely. The cooling system has been specifically upgraded with the aluminum radiator and added cooling fans to combat the overheating issues these are known for. Thanks
Can you drive it in summer without overheating issues?
Absolutely exceptional. GLWTA
