Produced by MG in Abingdon, England, from 1955 until 1962, the MGA embodies the essence of a classic British roadster. This 1961 example was purchased by the seller shortly after it was restored about 2 years ago and is said to benefit from $38k in refurbishment. The body-off restoration included new dark red paint, a rebuilt 1.6-liter engine, and a rebuilt 4-speed manual transmission with a new clutch. Said to have been driven approximately 300 miles since the restoration was completed, this MGA is now being offered for auction by its owner out of Kentucky.
This MG was reportedly a rust-free California car prior to the restoration and has been refinished in dark red with a black convertible top. Equipment includes chrome bumpers, a rear luggage rack, dual fender-mounted mirrors, and 15” wire spoke wheels with knock-off spinners and Michelin XZX tires. The seller notes the car has been driven approximately 100 miles during their ownership and was kept in a climate-controlled garage. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.
The cabin features black vinyl bucket seats with contrasting red piping complemented by a matching center armrest and door panels. Accessories include a four-spoke banjo-style steering wheel, black lap belts, a dashboard-mounted rearview mirror, a cassette radio, Jaeger instrumentation, and a voltage meter and clock below the dashboard.
Power comes from a dual-carbureted 1.6-liter inline-four engine that drives the rear wheels through a 4-speed manual transmission. Both the engine and gearbox were rebuilt during the restoration along with the installation of a new clutch. The car is equipped with front disc and drum brakes, rack & pinion steering, independent coil spring front suspension, and a rigid axle with semi-elliptic springs at the rear.
This sale will include a clean title.
The seller would like you to know: "I purchased this example right after it was restored, I've had it for 2 years, all of which it has stayed in a heated and air-conditioned garage. The same garage that I no longer have space in for the new car I purchased which is why I am passing this beautiful example on to its next caretaker. It is a great running little car, you will not be disappointed"
