This 1960 Porsche-Diesel Super L 318 was acquired new by the seller’s father while he worked as a Porsche-Diesel Tractor dealer in Orange, Connecticut. It eventually moved with its original caretaker to Virginia and saw use on his farm before being brought back to Connecticut by the seller during the mid-1990s where it underwent cosmetic restoration. Porsche’s North American Headquarters imported approximately 1000 tractors to be sold through their dealer network during their time in business, and the seller estimates that 27 of this model, the L 318, were sold in 1960. Proudly displayed at various Porsche events including the 50th Porsche Parade in Hershey, Pennsylvania, this Super L 318 is now being offered for auction by the original owner’s family out of Connecticut accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity from the American Porsche-Diesel Corporation.
During the cosmetic restoration in the 1990s, this tractor was refinished in its proper bright red color and fitted with new tires sized 11”x36” in the rear and 6.5”x20” in front. Factory accessories installed at the original dealer included a driver’s seat cushion, a rear passenger seat, and four front weights.
Up to 40 HP comes from an air-cooled 2,467cc three-cylinder diesel engine paired with a 12-speed manual gearbox including 8 forward and 4 reverse gears. A recently issued Certificate of Authenticity and Detailed Inspection Report from the American Porsche-Diesel Corporation found the lights, wiring, charging system, and hydraulic system to be working properly. Upgraded 110-watt glow pugs have been equipped and the exhaust system was noted as being complete with no leaks. The clutch and brakes have been adjusted to factory specifications and an engine compression test found all cylinders to be within the acceptable range.
This tractor is accompanied by a bill of sale as well as a Certificate of Authenticity and Detailed Inspection Report from the American Porsche-Diesel Corporation.
