Now available for auction is this 1960 Porsche 356B Sunroof Coupe finished in red over a tan leather interior. Representing the inaugural model year for the 356B, this 1960 example debuted the T5-generation bodywork built by Reutter in Stuttgart. It has been under the seller’s care for the past 7 years and was reported to have been with the previous owner for over 20 years. Upgraded front disc brakes have been installed, the fuel pump has been recently rebuilt, and the engine is said to have been refurbished around the time of the seller’s purchase. This classic 356B Coupe is now being offered for auction by its owner out of New York.
The Reutter bodywork features a rare sunroof and is said to have previously undergone a bare-metal respray in the current shade of red. The originally specified color was Ruby Red (702) and the car is said to retain its factory chrome brightwork. The windshield has been replaced and the rest of the glass said to be original. Additional images are provided in the photo gallery. The T5 bodywork differs from its predecessor with the raised level of its headlights, higher line of the front wings, higher front bumper with larger over-riders, and oval-shaped air-inlets located on the lower front valence. This example rides on factory 15” steel wheels featuring chrome Super hubcaps with colored enamel Porsche crests. These wheels are currently dressed Pirelli tires which are said to have been installed about two years ago within the last 800 miles.
Inside, the cabin is upholstered with tan leather and matching square-weave carpeting. The three-spoke steering wheel is wrapped in brown leather and features a chrome horn ring. It sits ahead of a red-painted dashboard housing three analog instrument dials with classic green markings. The seller confirms all gauges and accessories to be working properly.
This 356B carries a replacement 1600cc flat-four engine sourced from a 1962 example (SN: 609005). The rear wheels are driven by way of a 4-speed manual gearbox and the stopping power has been improved with upgraded front disc brakes (original drums included). The engine is said to have been refurbished about 7 years ago and the fuel pump was rebuilt approximately 1 year ago. There are no outstanding issues or maintenance items reported at this time and images of the underbody are provided for reference in the photo gallery.
This sale will include a valid New York registration. A nicely presented example of one of Porsche’s most iconic vehicles, this 356B Sunroof Coupe is a perfect choice for any driver in search of a proper vintage motoring experience.
