This 1960 Porsche 356B 1600 Super Cabriolet was originally imported by Hoffman in New York. It had been under the care of its last owner for 30 years before it was sold and subjected to a comprehensive 8-year restoration project. The car has been refinished in the historic Porsche color Bali Blue over a new tan leather interior with beige square weave carpets. The numbers-matching 1600cc flat-four motor and 4-speed manual gearbox have been rebuilt along with the suspension and braking system. Accompanied by owner’s manuals, a toolkit, and extensive restoration records, this 356B Cabriolet is now being offered for auction out of New York.

The Reutter-built T5 bodywork was refurbished with new front fenders and floor pans during the restoration. It was refinished in the classic 1960s Porsche color of Bali Blue, from its original shade of Aetna Blue. The windshield was replaced, the chrome exterior brightwork was restored, and the car was fitted with a new tan German canvas soft top and matching boot cover. This 356B rides on its original date-coded 15” slotted steel wheels with chrome Porsche-crested hubcaps that were professionally restored and fitted with new Vredestein Sprint Classic tires within the last 100 miles. The seller describes the car’s exterior as in excellent condition with consistent body panel alignment. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.

The cabin has been redone with new tan leather upholstery and beige German square-weave carpets complemented by a body-colored dashboard fascia. Accessories include an original three-spoke steering wheel, a chrome driver’s side mirror, analog VDO gauges, a glovebox, door panel storage pockets, and manual roll-up windows. All gauges and electrical components are said to be fully functional.

The original 1,600cc air-cooled flat-four engine was factory-rated at 75 HP and 87 lb.-ft of torque. It drives the rear wheels through a numbers-matching 4-speed manual transaxle. The engine and transmission were completely rebuilt during the restoration along with the suspension and four-wheel drum braking system. Images of the restoration process are provided in the gallery along with a collection of associated invoices.

This sale will include owner’s manuals, a toolkit, a spare tire, maintenance records, and a New York registration.

Absolutely beautiful 1960 356 Cab. And, all original! I have a 1960 B Roadster. It took 4 years to fully complete a concourse rotisserie restoration and also about the same money. The
end result is an exquisite jewel. Every time I pass my car in the garage I think how incredible the design.

If this car sells for less than $250K I'm going to lose all faith in Excellence magazine. I think the bidders are playing a game requiring nerves of steel. Interesting to watch!

  • jbird23 (seller) 1 month, 2 weeksago

@BarryLe hi Barry I have 2 large binders of receipts & photos of the 356 throughout the restoration process, we have owned it for 8 years but didn't get started on it right away I'd say it took around 4 years from start to finish as we have multiple projects going on at once here at the dealership and took the extra time to make sure everything came out perfect, we did most of the restoration here at the dealership and out sourced the metal work at country valley collision & interior was done at rancho upholstery, rough estimate on total restoration costs is over 150k, I will upload receipts on all the major expenses, please feel free to reach out with any other questions or concerns

  • BarryLe (registered bidder) 1 month, 2 weeksago

Jbird23: Where are all the restoration receipts and the total cost spent on the restoration? Who did the restoration work? Why did it take so long? I did mine 356SC Cab in a year. Please fill the bidders in.
