Available for auction is a rare 1960 Höhm H-D 62 instructional model car, originally built in Germany and distributed by Werner Degener as a driving school training tool. Measuring approximately 42” in length, this motorized scale model showcases a meticulously engineered drivetrain and suspension system, making it an exceptional collector’s piece.
The model features a four-cylinder engine encased in transparent housing, allowing a clear view of its electrically powered internal components, including a crankshaft, pistons, camshaft, and color-coded rockers operating the overhead valves. Power is transmitted through a cutaway manual gearbox with a functioning clutch and shifter, connecting to the rear wheels via a driveshaft, differential, and half shafts.
Designed for interactive learning, the model includes a worm-and-sector steering system that controls the front wheels, as well as a fully operational leaf-spring suspension. The cutaway wheels expose the internal drum brakes, and the electric motor brings key functions to life. Additional features include illuminated simulation spark plugs, working headlights, 1 working taillight, and license plate lights.
Some wiring and controls are positioned beneath the base to maintain a clean and compact design. The seller states the model remains in excellent working condition with only one inoperable tail light. As a rare instructional model from the 1960s, it serves as both an educational tool and a highly desirable display piece for collectors and automotive enthusiasts.
