First shown as a prototype at the 1954 New York Auto Show, the 190SL is a two-door luxury roadster intended to serve as a more affordable alternative to the highly exclusive Mercedes-Benz 300SL sports car. This 1959 example is finished in Blue Grey and was subject to a complete restoration by Giovanni’s Import & Sports Car Repair Inc. carried out from 2011 to 2022. This iconic Mercedes-Benz has been driven less than 100 miles since and is now being offered for auction by its seller out of New York.
Beginning in 2011, this 190SL was completely restored and refinished in its original nonmetallic color of Blue Grey (166). It includes a manual convertible soft top as well as a removable ivory-painted hardtop. Records show the replacement of the nose and floor panels during the restoration as well as the windshield, window frames, moldings, rubber seals, weatherstripping, chrome trim, and associated hardware. The 15” chrome wheels are fitted with color-matched hubcaps and new Vredestein whitewall tires, and a matching full-size spare is included in the trunk. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.
The cabin has been completely redone with new tan leather upholstery and beige square weave carpeting with rubber footwell liners. Details include a painted dashboard, a white two-spoke steering wheel, chrome fittings, a vintage AM/FM radio, an under-dash heater, and analog VDO instrumentation. The seat bases were re-chromed during the restoration along with refurbishment of the gauges, heater, and electrical system.
Power comes from a type M121 BII 1.9-liter SOHC inline-four carbureted engine that drives the rear wheels by way of a synchronized 4-speed manual gearbox. The restoration invoice shows an engine overhaul including new rings, gaskets, seals, crankshaft gear, a new oil pan, flywheel, exhaust pipes, rubber mounts, oil pump, fuel pump, and complete wiring harness. The brakes and suspension were also completely rebuilt during the restoration, a corresponding invoice is provided in the gallery along with images of the drivetrain stampings.
This sale will include some records, the original owner’s book, workshop manuals, a removable hardtop, soft top, and a clean title.

Beautiful Car! I live in NY. Is it possible to arrange to see it in person?
@EUROsellinc @EUROsellinc: Thank you.
@MJSR hello. from the research we conducted on the serial numbers found on the car it does appear to all be in range and is matching numbers. Please do your own due diligence as well as we don't want to mislead anyone. There are multiple photos in the gallery showing the numbers, I can also take any desired photos and have them added right away.
EUROsellinc: So I'm clear, is the engine the original matching numbers engine to this chassis? Thank you
