Originally imported to New York by the Hoffman dealership, this 1958 Porsche 356A Cabriolet is said to have been upgraded with a replacement 1,600cc Super 90 engine in 1960. It was refinished in Light Ivory over a red interior during the early 2000s and was part of Claude Michaud’s collection, CEO of Reno Dépôt. The car was purchased from his estate by his son-in-law who in turn sold it to the current owner, a renowned Porsche collector in Quebec. This classic 356A Cabriolet is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Canada.

This 356A was refinished in Light Ivory from its original color of Ruby Red in the early 2000s. Equipment includes a retractable black convertible top, a red boot cover, chrome brightwork, body-colored bumpers, a driver’s side mirror, a fender-mounted antenna, dual center-mounted tailpipes, and 15” slotted steel wheels with chrome Porsche-crested hubcaps. A tear can be seen on the rear window of the cabriolet top.

The original black interior has been replaced with red leather upholstery and matching carpets. Accessories include a body-colored dashboard, an ivory two-spoke steering wheel, a leather Porsche-crested gear knob, black rubber floor liners, a locking glovebox, a heater, a pushbutton Pianola radio, and analog VDO gauges. The seller indicates some wear and patina throughout the cabin.

This 356A is said to have been upgraded with a replacement 1,600cc Super 90 engine in 1960. It delivers power to the rear wheels through a 4-speed manual transaxle. The seller indicates the car was fully serviced by a well-regarded local Porsche specialist, and there are no outstanding maintenance items at this time.

This sale will include a spare tire, a jack, a copy of the Kardex, and a Canadian registration.

The seller would like you to know: “Happy to present an icon of our favorite brand. Where it all began. Thank you, Ferry Porsche. This car is a profiterole, a creampuff. The original timid little mill was deliberately substituted in 1960 by the more powerful Super 90, to give the car more oomph. The color was changed to Ivory, to make the car more distinguished and sophisticated. This fabulous Porsche was sold new by Max Hoffman, the original importer. Bid with confidence to WIN! Many more Porsche in approach from this owner on PCARMARKET, if the price is right! GL!”

    @AlexBert It's a beautiful 356. I love A-cars, especially Cabs. I have a '62B Cab. Bonne chance! C'est magnifique!!

  • AlexBert (seller) 3 months, 3 weeksago

    @ralphnapolitano Thanks for the Great wish. Who doesn’t need Luck !? 😁 i don’t think i’ll need it for that One, though. Observations:

    Prerogative reserved to past owners of this beauty To have brought the modifications They wanted to make Back Then. Keep note interior is ORIGINAL in stunning mesmerising Ruby Red.

    I do have a Friend currently discarding a perfect 3.6L from his regular 993 to drop a GT3 Engine in it and build it as a RWB inspired project. Engine will be for sale Here in upcoming Lot. His 993 will no longer be matching number. But who really cares? He will have a Blast, subsequent owners will as well. Same scenario applies with this 356. More Power. More exhilaration.

    For the Color. THIS COMBO is Great! Again same logic applies Here. Easy peasy mission for next owners to Spray RubyRed, to match Kardex.

    Market fluctuates All the Time. And You Always WIN Long Term, regardless the Price Paid.

    Price is Forgotten ; Quality Remains.

    NOT numbers matching, different exterior (paint), different interior color... in a down market? Good luck...
