We are pleased to present this 1958 Porsche 356A finished in Ruby Red over a black vinyl interior. This 356A was acquired by the Wilson Collection in 2012 as a Coupe from Beverly Hills Car Club.  Beginning in 2014, this 356A was transformed into a Speedster by restoration expert Pablo Tapia of Performance & Vintage Classicos, Inc.  The comprehensive all-metal Speedster transformation was completed in 2017 and an extensive effort was made to carry out the conversion as close to factory specifications as possible, including the addition of structural reinforcements throughout the chassis. The 1600cc engine was also rebuilt in 2014 by the specialists at the 901 Shop. Accompanied by a record totaling over $187k worth of high-quality parts and painstaking labor, this beautifully executed 356A Speedster conversion is now being offered for auction out of the Wilson Collection in Florida.

During the restoration, this 356A was refinished in Ruby Red and fitted with a new retractable black soft top.  The custom metalwork was performed by Pablo Tapia and included the installation of a new Speedster windscreen from Stoddard Parts, front and rear bumpers from Sierra Madre, and a hood skin from Karmann Konnection. The seller notes only a few minor imperfections including wear marks around the door jams, detailed images are provided in the gallery. This 356A rides on 15” steel wheels with chrome hubcaps and Vredestein Sprint Classic tires.

Inside, the cabin has been completely redone with new black vinyl upholstery, square weave carpeting, and Speedster-style bucket seats. A new steering wheel, hub, and horn button were sourced from Sierra Madre.  The heater control unit was replaced along with the ignition switch, voltage regulator, lock receivers, door latches, and speedometer.  The seller notes that the functionality of the odometer has not been confirmed as the car has not been driven since the completion of the restoration.

This Speedster carries an air-cooled flat-four engine based on a 356A 1600S case rebuilt by the 901 Shop in 2014.  The rear wheels are driven through a 356A 4-speed manual gearbox and the chassis is said to have received additional reinforcements to compensate for the removal of the roof.  A Dansk muffler also has been installed along with Koni shocks.  The engine is said to have been freshly tuned and images of the undercarriage and drivetrain stampings are provided in the gallery along with the restoration log.

This sale will include a clean South Carolina title.  The product of a truly staggering amount of work and planning, this faithfully recreated 356A Speedster presents a very special opportunity.
