A professionally built recreation of one of Porsche’s most iconic sports cars, this 1958 Porsche 356 Speedster replica was created by Vintage Speedsters of California in the Fall of 2022. It is based upon a 1969 Volkswagen Beetle that was acquired by the seller in 2020 and transformed with replica fiberglass bodywork finished in Speedster Blue over a Red Wine interior. The car is powered by an air-cooled 1,915cc engine built by Proformance in Orange, California, and features dual barrel Empi carburetors, an oil cooler, and a custom A1 Sidewinder exhaust built by Tiger of Santa Ana. This Speedster replica is now being offered for auction out of California with approximately 1,500 miles showing on the odometer.
The handcrafted fiberglass bodywork is finished in the classic 1950s Porsche color of Speedster Blue and laid over a Washburn’s metal chassis with Flat Out Customs stamped-to-length floor pans. Equipment includes fog lights, bumper guards, a burgundy convertible top, a fender-mounted driver’s side mirror, and chrome wheels with period-correct 165R Michelin ZXZ tires. The seller notes a small chip on the front bumper and on the lower rear quarter panel near the wheel well. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.
The cabin s trimmed with Red Wine upholstery covering the bucket seats, door panels, and dashboard. Accessories include a wood-rimmed three-spoke steering wheel with a Porsche0crested horn button and a set of vintage-style gauges with green markings.
Power comes from an air-cooled 1,915cc flat-four engine which was built by Dave Grider of Proformance in California and features a 69.5mm chromoly crank, an 8-dowel flywheel, twin 40mm Empi dual barrel carburetors, Bosch ignition, an oil cooler with an electric fan, and an A1 Sidewinder exhaust. The rear wheels are driven by a 4-speed manual transmission. The chassis Also includes an independent rear suspension with an adjustable front torsion bar, rear trailing arms, and front dampers. The seller notes the oil has been changed monthly throughout their ownership.
This sale will include a clean title.
The seller would like you to know: “Thank you for visiting my auction. I have owned this car for over 3 years and stored it in a garage in Southern California. All maintenance is up to date with oil being changed monthly. The car is completely stock as configured by Vintage Motorcars Inc. in Hawaiian Gardens, CA. This build uses an IRS on a Washburn's Metal chassis. The chassis is more rigid than typical with consideration to thick metal stamped to-length floor pans from Flat Out Customs located in the UK. The chassis and associated parts are powder-coated black for durability and longevity. New German fuel lines were installed during the chassis build. The engine has a 69.5mm chromoly crank, 8 dowel flywheel, 40mm dual barrel, dual carb setup, with an A1 sidewinder exhaust. Period Correct 165R tires complement the build achieving proper ride height and stance. Ride height is adjustable using front torsion bar and rear trailing arm adjusters. The front suspension has adjustable dampers for tuning the handling characteristics of this breathtaking Vintage Motorcar!”

Hi. The listing says you've owned for three years but it also says the build is from 2022? Are you the original owner did you purchase it new from Vintage Speedsters? Thanks.

@Rungegator car is titled as 1969 VW SD1131 (Beetle).
What is the car titled as?
@Chipper it doesn’t. It’s my preference. These older engine crankcase designs allow moisture to enter. I use conventional oil and there isn’t a filter. Also, changing oil is dead simple on these little engines. Again, my preference to do it, but I don’t think there is a compelling need.
why would the oil need to changed monthly!
@joe18d Hi Joe
Thanks for the feedback. I took some pictures of the underside and will upload shortly!
Bid in the amount of $8,000
Beautiful Speedster & as the owner of Vintage Speedster I think you would really benefit by getting underside shots of that Washburn chassis loaded up to get the bids rolling.... That chassis truly takes this a few steps above 90% of the Speedsters we all see auctioned each week.

@Havenhearth I can get you the measurements requested upon my return to SoCal on Friday afternoon.
I'm 6'6" and just barely fit in my Boxster.
Would you be willing to measure from the seat back's bottom to the pedals when the seat is fully extended backward?
I know the Speedster top is considerably lower than a standard 356. If you're up for it, can you determine the headroom ( seat bottom to underside of the convertible top, and whether there would be a top brace immediately above a driver's head when the seat is all the way back?
Thanks very much in advance.
This is a beautiful looking build!
Cheers
