Originally designed by the Italian refrigerator manufacturer Iso SpA., the Isetta caused a sensation at the time of its debut with its unique styling and compact proportions. BMW took over production of the Isetta in 1955 and increased the capacity of the single-cylinder engine to 298cc in 1956 to meet German motoring regulations. This 1958 U.S.-market example is finished in red and white with color-coordinated tartan cloth upholstery. Originally delivered in Oregon, it was acquired by the seller in 2014 and imported to Italy for a complete restoration, where this classic microcar is now being offered for auction.
Factory-specified in blue, this Isetta underwent a complete exterior restoration in Italy in 2017. The car was refinished in a two-tone red and white theme complete with a retractable cloth sunroof, chrome trim, dual side mirrors, chrome bumperettes, and 10” wheels with chrome hubcaps and SAVA tires from 2014. The exterior paint is said to remain in new condition since the refinish, with no rust present. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.
Upon opening the forward-facing refrigerator-style front door, the driver is greeted with custom red tartan cloth upholstery and white contrasting vinyl. Amenities include a floor-mounted three-spoke steering wheel, a black sifter & floor pedals, black floor mats with white piping, a single windshield wiper, and a reverse-sweeping VDO tachometer. The seller adds that all electronics were redone as part of the restoration.
This Isetta is powered by a 298cc single-cylinder 4-stroke engine rated at 13 HP and 14 lb.-ft of torque. The engine is said to have been rebuilt during the restoration and sends power to the rear wheels through a 4-speed manual gearbox. Specified with an output of 13 HP at 5200 RPM, the Isetta 300 is capable of reaching a factory-claimed top speed of 53 MPH. The seller adds that an inspection was performed in September 2024.
This sale will include an Italian registration.
The seller would like you to know: “The car is now in Italy: I can provide support for the delivery in USA, I can recommend an agency for transportation between USA and Italy. The car had a USA Title, maybe it will not have to pat US Custom fee, but this has to be checked.”
