A hand-built recreation of one of Porsche’s most iconic vehicles, this 1957 Speedster replica is based on a 1969 Volkswagen Beetle and powered by a dual-carbureted 1,800cc air-cooled engine. Recently serviced with a valve adjustment and fresh fluids, this Speedster replica is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Georgia.
The Speedster-style bodywork is constructed of fiberglass and finished in silver paint with a black convertible top. Accessories include a red tonneau cover, dual chrome mirrors, gold Speedster badging, yellow-tinted headlamps with lens guards, a chrome luggage rack, dual chrome tailpipes, and VW “Wide 5” wheels with chrome Porsche-crested hubcaps. Additional images are provided in the gallery.
The cabin is lined with black carpeting and appointed with red vinyl upholstery covering the seats and door panels as well as the shifter and handbrake boots. Accessories include Speedster-style bucket seats with lap belts, a three-spoke banjo-style steering wheel, and a newly installed set of VDO classic gauges.
Power comes from a 1,800cc dual-port VW engine with dual carburetors and a 4-speed manual transmission driving the rear wheels. Stopping power comes from disc brakes at the front and drums in the rear. The seller states recent service includes valve adjustments, carburetor tuning, and new oil and gearbox fluid.
This sale will include a clean title.

Agreed - looks exactly like a VS build... will be following. ;-) Thanks
@BestCAR I was told Vintage Speedsters - This car does not have any body numbers or plates on the car. It has all of the details of a Vintage Speedster. No clue on the Horsepower - it easily keeps pace with modern traffic, starts great and runs very well. Just a nice set up overall.
@WNGD Old Speedometer shows 6104 Miles. Joe Frazar
Hi! Beautiful color combo! Was this build by Vintage Speedster, California, or..? :-) Also: do you know how many HP the engine puts out? GLWA
@WNGD I will go get the old speedo Monday and report the miles. Sorry I did not explain that. Car is at my warehouse and the old gauges are in the car.
Bid in the amount of $22,000
Bid in the amount of $21,000
Seller, apologies if I'm not being clear.
How many miles were on the old gaugr set which presumably showed the since 2014.
And was the engine (then or now) a zero mileage engine or how many miles were on it before being re-built or making its way into this beautiful replica.
@WNGD The Donor car was just for the Chassis and Vin. All the mechanicals are rebuilt or new. Regarding the gauges, the original tach failed and repair was a not possible for parts - some NLA chip. The correct move was to get a full matching set of VDO Gauges that are replica's of the original gauges on the 356 Speedsters. Thankfully VDO now offers these and is what I went with - they work perfectly.
@SRCmini 1969 VW Beetle - you did not miss it.
Hello, why the new gauges and how many miles are on the rebuild after 2014 since they won't show now?
How many previously in whatever the donor car was? Thx
Maybe i missed it, but what is the car titled as?
Bid in the amount of $20,000
