A professionally built recreation of one of Porsche’s most iconic sports cars, this 1957 Porsche 356 Speedster replica was crafted by Vintage Speedsters of Hawaiian Gardens, California. Powered by a 1,915cc flat-four engine paired with a 4-speed manual transmission, this example is presented in grey over red vinyl upholstery. Driven approximately 8k kilometers (5k miles) since the completion of the build, this Speedster replica is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Oregon.
The handcrafted fiberglass bodywork comes finished in grey with a black convertible soft top. Appointments include teardrop-style taillights, chrome brightwork, a black-finished driver’s side mirror, headlight cages, yellow-tinted driving lights, leather hood-retaining straps, a central exhaust outlet, and Mobil Pegasus graphics on the front fenders. It rides on paint-matched 15” Vintage 190 steel wheels with aluminum hubs and Pirelli P4 tires from 2008. The seller notes very slight paint flaws along the hood & driver’s side door, and touch-up paint will accompany the sale. Additional images are provided in the gallery.
The cabin presents red vinyl upholstery with low-back bucket seats and a color-coordinated dashboard and door panels. Equipment includes lap belts, a gold-finished Porsche badge along the dashboard, a wooden steering wheel & shift knob, woven floor mats, and an AM/FM stereo with auxiliary inputs. The seller notes the alternator light flickers on low idle and the horn is currently nonfunctional.
This example equips an air-cooled 1,915cc flat-four engine featuring dual carburetors and an external oil cooler. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a 4-speed manual transmission. Stopping power is provided by disc brakes in the front and rear drums. The seller adds that a recent oil change was carried out in preparation for the sale.
This sale will include a clean title.
The seller would like you to know: “This car is an attention-getter. It turns heads and gets a thumbs up just about every mile you drive it. While I haven't had it long (selling due to medical issues), it's been a joy each time out. Always stored in a climate-controlled garage. Fresh oil. It's a unique car with the perfect color combination, in my humble opinion.”

@PCARMARKET trust me, I won’t.
@doltond we appreciate that. Please be mindful that the comment made followed by no additional bids from you gave some bidders a bad taste. We kindly ask you refrain from doing this in the future.

@BusterBoston I'm out because I don't feel right about the conversation you and @doltond had...

And I certainly wasn't entertaining doing a deal outside this auction.
@doltond you cannot do an off-market deal just to be clear. Bidding is the only way to own this car. thank you.
My feelings also!
@doltond Is that legal to circumvent this bidding process?
@doltond I hope so too!
@busterboston - I’m in Bend (just went through your neck of the woods) this weekend through Wednesday…. I Joe we can do a deal. Doug

@Mentoring1 No. I drove the car 180 miles in the 8 months I've owned it. I started it weekly. Can't speak to what was done by the previous owner. He drove it only 75 miles during his ownership.
@BusterBoston Thanks Again! I've heard and read that a valve reset (adjustment) is recommended every 3k miles... Have you had this maintenance completed?
@Mentoring1 Pics #22, 23, and 24
@Mentoring1 I've posted a couple pics of what was mentioned in the listing. Other chips are viewable in the close-ups of the front end in the gallery.
@BusterBoston I appreciate the quick response! Could you please upload those pictures I asked for... Thanks

@Mentoring1 No. I believe I am the third owner. Previous owner is a dealer who had the car for only a short time.
Bid in the amount of $19,356
Btw, are you the original owner? Love the colors scheme on this!
Bid in the amount of $19,000
Could you please take some pictures of the paint imperfections (chips, scratches and bumps) on the doors, hood and front end. Thanks @BusterBoston!

@RJHenryIII I will post a pic, but no, there is no backing.
Hi all,
Thanks for the interest and the bids. It's winding down and I of course am hoping for others to hop on board! This car will not disappoint. I'd love to hang onto it but medical issues have me downsizing. In an aside, gents--get your PSA level checked!
Bid in the amount of $14,356
It is covered by the top in the pics but are there rear seats? it looks like the bench is there, but is the backing?
@jallgood1225 correct. What would be the benefit of that? If the seller removed it at the end (and many do) , what it is set at right now is completely irrelevant. This mod works if it’s used as intended.
It is obvious that the VW pan has been cut and welded back together in order to have the front ball joint axel beam frame head and the swing axel rear torsion suspension.......
@PCARMARKET I Am guessing One cannot ask the Reserve at any time.
Correct?
My apologies for any correspondence violation.
I monitor and bid soon.
@PCARMARKET My apologies.
I was unaware of a violation.
Please explain.
Bid in the amount of $12,000
Pretty car, GLWS!
@jallgood1225 your comment was removed because it violated our terms. Reserve is kept private for good reason!
You have a stock ball joint front beam and a rear swing axle, most likely a 1967 or a 68. Stock, front disc and rear drum brakes.
Thanks
@rogerflintstone I'm afraid I can't help you too much. I've uploaded two photos that may aid you in answering a couple of your questions. Apologies

How about some front and rear suspension pics?
Stock VW disc brakes or aftermarket? Rear drums stock or type 3? Swing axle or IRS? Ball joint or Link Pin front axle?
What you can tell us will help in our bidding.
@Mentoring1 Thanks for your interests! It's a 2008. I submitted a walk-around video initially, but for whatever reason, it wasn't included. I'll post it soon and do a cold start later this morning when a friend is stopping by. Also will include a driving video.
What year was this built? Is it possible to do a walk around, cold start and driving video? Thx
Please see photos of the gear shift knob in the gallery.
I am including an original leather-wrapped gear shift knob from a '57 356 I purchased many years ago as a parts car when I was restoring a '55 356. Some adapting would be required if one wished to install it in the Speedster.

@1Sophiedog Hmmm. Well that's interesting, since the company that created this car and others is/was based in California.
Not legal in many states, like the peoples republic of California......
@1Sophiedog This car never had bumpers. As it's an "Outlaw", it's part of that look.
@RJHenryIII A friend is coming by tomorrow, so I'll see if we can get a video, amateurish though it will be.
Where are the bumpers?
Any driving video possible?
Bid in the amount of $8,000
@perrywestfield Thank you. Yes, it's 12-volt. Photo has been posted.

Hi. Cool car! Is it 12 volt? Can you post a picture with the top up? Thx
@Hangar7 Thanks for your interest. It's titled as a 1960 VW.
Beautiful car! Is it titled as a VW or given a VIN number by Oregon?
Happy to answer any questions about this great outlaw Speedster!
