Up for auction is this 1957 Porsche 356A Cabriolet replica by Specialty Auto Sports. Built in 2006 upon a custom tubular chassis, this Cabriolet is powered by a mid-mounted 2.0 L turbocharged boxer engine mated to a proper 5-speed manual gearbox. Showcasing period-correct styling and some modern performance improvements including independent rear suspension, power assisted 4-wheel disc brakes and electronic fuel injection, this Cabriolet offers the best of both worlds for any avid Porsche enthusiast. Having traveled approximately 27k miles from new, this beautifully executed replica is now being offered by its seller in Idaho in fantastic driving condition.
The fiberglass bodywork is finished in Palm Green Metallic. The paint is said to be in very nice condition with the exception of some minor spider webbing. The seller also indicates that the front of the car was refinished shortly after the initial delivery for some cosmetic damage sustained during transportation. Detailed images are provided in the photo gallery. This Cabriolet was built with an optional flared-fender widebody which includes wider wheels and suspension setup. Other noteworthy features include leather hood straps, a front splitter, removable vinyl graphics, a Green fabric soft top and Fuchs-style wheels that are currently dressed in healthy Continental Sport Contact tires.
The cabin retains a classic look while offering modern amenities including a Pioneer radio, heated seats, air conditioning with heat and defroster, power operated windows, an alarm system and cruise control. Period-correct details include vintage-style VDO gauges, a wood rimmed steering wheel and square weave carpeting. The cabin is shown to be in great shape with some wear on the seats and the seller confirms all gauges and accessories to be fully functional.
This replica is equipped with a mid-mounted Subaru 2.0L turbocharged 4-cylinder boxer engine mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. The engine is upgraded with an STI intercooler, Deatchwerks 750cc electronic fuel injection, a Samco blowoff valve, Perrin equal-length headers, a custom stainless-steel exhaust and Cobb Tuning Accessport. Other performance features include a custom independent suspension setup with adjustable coilovers, power assisted 4-wheel disc brakes and a 16-gallon fuel tank with steel protective firewall. Proper routine service has been carried out from new and the seller reports that the wiring system has been entirely redone within the last year. This Cabriolet is noted to be in fantastic turn-key driving condition for its next owner.
This sale will include 1 master key and a tonneau cover. Offering the performance of a modern mid-mounted water-cooled engine paired with the iconic styling of the 1957 Porsche 356, this incredible replica represents a very unique opportunity.

@Tirefriar Man glad we dont have to deal with that! Geez!
@LupoMotors good morning. There are several issues to address. One would be passing the visual test (smog equipment that comes stock on that particular year subaru motor has to be present and fully functional), number of cylinders has to correspond to the 2006 Porsche model, as well as passing a sniffer test. Set up such as yours can be registered as a 2006 Porsche but it would need to be done through CARB (california air research board), another bureaucratic entity in California (enough said). California does not require smog inspection for pre '76 vehicles. I have imported a number of out of state 105 chassis Alfas without a hitch. All cars were pre '76 and required a simple vin verification at a AAA office, that was all.
@Tirefriar Good morning, Wouldnt it be able to smog since it is a more modern Subaru drive train? Just curious, happy we don't have to deal with that here.
@LupoMotors thanks for clarification. Unfortunately will not pass smog in Cali, has to be ‘75 or earlier model year on the title. GLWS
@Manpot I will talk with P car about the differences between the speedster and cabriolet.
@Tirefriar It is titled as a 2006 Porsche
@twallc4 I believe the wheel is plastic or something similar. Windows are power.
The car is moderately loud but not over the top, sounds nice.
I can't comment on the registration in all states as I don't know the laws.
@twallc4 Hi! There is a hatch behind the seats and from underneath

How do you get to the engine for servicing?
Is the steering wheel wood it looks like something else. Are the windows power, would like to see them up. How loud is this car, will it wake up the neighborhood? Is it registerable?
