A recreation of Porsche’s iconic 356A Speedster, this Widebody replica was professionally built by Vintage Speedsters in 2008 and derives power from an air-cooled 1915cc VW engine featuring dual Weber carburetors. This example comes finished in blue over tan upholstery and is said to have undergone a rebuild of the carburetors, a tune-up, and a valve adjustment in 2022. Driven just over 11k miles since the initial build, this custom Speedster replica is now being offered for auction by its seller out of New Hampshire.

Finished in blue, the handcrafted fiberglass bodywork is laid over a custom steel frame paired with a 1973 Volkswagen chassis. Optional Widebody fenders were selected along with a tan tonneau cover and soft top. Other equipment includes dual exterior mirrors, fender-mounted Porsche crests, teardrop taillights, and rear Carrera script. Silver-finished wheels with Porsche center crests are dressed in Nexen tires from 2013. The seller notes minor paint imperfections atop each rear fender, and additional images are provided in the gallery.

The cabin is trimmed in tan leatherette and matching square-weave carpeting. Appointments include painted lower dashboard trim, a wood-rimmed Nardi three-spoke steering wheel, vintage-style gauges, and a sound system. The seller adds that two sets of windows are included, half and full-height.

An air-cooled 1915cc flat-four VW engine sends power to the rear wheels through a 4-speed manual Freeway Flyer transmission. Mechanical features are said to include dual Weber carburetors and disc brakes. The seller adds that service in 2022 included the carburetors rebuilt, engine tuned-up, and valves adjusted. Additionally, an oil and filter change is said to have been carried out with synthetic oil.

This sale will include a clean title, a toolkit, and a car cover.

The seller would like you to know: “Thank you for your interest. This is my fifth Speedster replica and my first Outlaw. I hope you have as much fun with the car as I have. These cars are a blast to drive and draw many onlookers.”

Hi, I'm lifting the reserve. I would not be happy if the car sold at the current number based on my personal experience including other wide body replicas that have sold on this site prior for much more. That said, I'm a serious seller and look forward to an exciting last few hours as this auction comes to a close. Cheers and thank you for your interest!

Hi Mentoring1, I'm still waiting on Pcarmarket to upload the video you asked for. I believe they open at 9. I called and texted and there was no one in on the holiday, which is understandable. There is nothing that needs to be repaired or replaced that I am aware of. I'm pretty savvy with mechanical items and I have a few good buddies who provide additional sets of eyes. Worthy of 500 mile trip....yes. The paint is as represented in the photos. There are a couple very small chips up front down low (size of a ball point pen tip) from normal highway debris, sand etc. The tires have plenty of tread. They only have 7,000 miles on them.

  • Mentoring1 (registered bidder) 1 year, 5 monthsago

    Good Morning pdenbow,
Final questions before I increase the bid...

What needs to be repaired or replaced?
Is the car road worthy for a 500 mile trip?
Besides the few paint chips are there other paint issues?
How many more miles are left on the tires?

We "bidders" appreciate and trust cars on this site are true to form without hidden problems
    Please let us know

I uploaded the video to Pcarmarket cloud as well as via the add photo/video link on the website. Let's see what happens.

  • pdenbow (seller) 1 year, 5 monthsago

Sure Mentoring1. PLease give a me a bit. I need to have garage open in pouring rain so I don't get a carbon monoxide cocktail haha. I can upload the video, but I believe the auction folks need to post. Ideally everyone is checking their inbox today. Is it raining cats and dogs where you're at?

  • Mentoring1 (registered bidder) 1 year, 5 monthsago

Hi pdenbow - Could you please attach a video with the engine running and the back lid cover open. Thx!

  • pdenbow (seller) 1 year, 5 monthsago

Thank you to all for your interest thus far.

  • pdenbow (seller) 1 year, 5 monthsago

Hi Mentoring1, Those are heat ducts. You open those doors and pull the small lever next to the e brake to get heat.

  • pdenbow (seller) 1 year, 5 monthsago

OMG! I know what it is! It has been raining here in the Northeast almost constantly for the last month or so. I literally had a two hour window to take photos. At the end it started misting out. Those are rain drops! I can take a few updated photos in my garage if you would like as it's raining as I type!

  • pdenbow (seller) 1 year, 5 monthsago

There are no bubbles on the dash. Maybe bad photography on my part ie water spots or streaks from glass cleaner? I don't have the paint code. It would seem that the color was used by vintage speedsters a few times as there was prior auction on this site with an identical car that sold last fall.

  • TheVintageCarGuy 1 year, 5 monthsago

@pdenbow I must say the paint on the body, at least from the pictures, appears to be quite nice. But as for imperfections, what is the deal with the dash? All the pictures of the paint on the dash show numerous bubbles that look terrible. Do you know why this is? Also, was this painted this Blue from Vintage Speedsters and if so, do you have a paint code for touch-ups and repairs?

I see two metal plates with buttons on each side of the floor board area... What are they for?

  • pdenbow (seller) 1 year, 5 monthsago

Those are the only two paint imperfections and were there when I bought the car. They are so minor that I never touched them up.

  • pdenbow (seller) 1 year, 5 monthsago

There is one small chip half the size of a penny on top of drivers rear fender, and an even smaller scratch on passenger side rear fender. As you said, they are so small they are hard to see. I was just trying to be transparent.

  • TLarin (registered bidder) 1 year, 5 monthsago

Your description mentions paint imperfections over the wheel wells. I couldn't find pictures of that. could you post or explain?

  • pdenbow (seller) 1 year, 5 monthsago

The speedster is a blast to drive as is. Its pretty zippy and handles like its on rails. I'm sure one of those motor combos may work. I know folks are installing Subaru motors in speedsters as well.

  • sportscarguy3 (registered bidder) 1 year, 5 monthsago

Quite a handsome, speedster replica, classic colors for sure, and very nice attention to detail
Here’s my question is it possible and have you ever considered putting an upgraded Porsche. motor in here perhaps from an older 911 with 1.7 2.0 or 2.7 L
Just wondering if it wouldn’t make the driving experience a lot more exciting, but not sure if that type of Porsche motor and transmission would work with the aftermarket speedster suspension and build kit
    Just curious
    Certainly a handsome speedster replica
    Good luck all

  • pdenbow (seller) 1 year, 5 monthsago

Funny you mention that! She's quicker than stock, but not headed to the drag strip anytime soon :)

  • TheVintageCarGuy 1 year, 5 monthsago

Ok thanks. Great looking little car, btw. Lol though....Z rated tires on what is essentially a 120hp at best VW? Seems a bit overkill, but then again, at that size, Z is probably all that is available.

  • pdenbow (seller) 1 year, 5 monthsago

I hear you. Surprisingly, the tires are not dry rotted or cracked at all. That said, I have two buddies that own local shops here in town that would have no problem installing the tires and balancing them, etc.. The tire sizes are 225/45/zr17 front, and 255/40/zr17 rear.

  • TheVintageCarGuy 1 year, 5 monthsago

@pdenbow With 10 years old tires, driving this home might not be the wisest decission. It would be helpful to know the tire size front and back. Also, is there a reputable tire shop local to you where new tires can be purchased and installed? Wheels, such as are on this Speedster not doable for many shops.
