Originally designed by the Italian refrigerator manufacturer Iso SpA., the Isetta caused a sensation at the time of its debut with its eye-catching styling and proportions and enjoyed widespread success in Europe throughout the 1950s and early 1960s. This 1957 BMW Isetta comes finished in blue and white over a white interior. With its non-running engine, this example serves as an ideal candidate for refurbishment and is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Massachusetts.

The exterior is finished in two-tone blue and white. Equipment includes a grey fabric soft top, a chrome front bumper, a hinged outward-opening front end, a polished fuel cap, chrome body trim, and a driver’s side mirror. The 13” steel wheels wear polished hubcaps and Dunlop tires from 2011. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.

Upon opening the forward-facing refrigerator-style front door, you will find a white vinyl-upholstered interior with body-color accents. Other details include a painted 3-spoke steering wheel, a manually operated air vent, and a small rear parcel shelf. The operation of the gauges has not been confirmed.

A 298cc single-cylinder 4-stroke engine is connected to the rear wheels through a 4-speed manual gearbox. The engine is currently not running.

This sale will include a registration.

The seller would like you to know: “What we have here is a stunning 1957 Isetta 300 Mk II with 7,803 miles showing on the odometer. This "Bubble Car" is finished in Pale Blue and White with a White vinyl interior. This is a fantastic collector car and is in overall great condition This 1957 BMW Isetta 300 is powered by her 300cc motor producing 13hp which is coupled to a 4 Speed transmission that. The car has an optional heater and a top speed of about 50mph; you would be more brave than me if you decided to test that out!!! It also delivers a reported 50mpg which was unheard of at the time and is still almost unheard of today! BMW purchased the rights to this car in its entirety from the Italian company Iso SpA who was manufacturing motor scooters and three-wheeled trucks. BMW decided to build these cars to precision specifications and as a result, they are surprisingly well built, solid and robust. Cars in this condition do not come along often so do not let the chance to own her pass you by.”

@Pebblegreens I think I touched on these questions in my previous response. Since it is a reserve auction, I cannot divulge the reserve as it would defeat the purpose of the auction. We do really appreciate your interest, Thank you

@Pebblegreens This is not a no reserve auction. I have worked with this collector of classic cars for about 15 years and know him well, he currently has me selling a Jaguar Mk II and two Rolls Royce as well as a classic XK140 Jaguar for him. He often trades cars 2 or three for one where he is interested in just one of the cars. In this case he sells the two that do not fit his criteria; the Isetta falls into that category. As far as we know, there is nothing wrong with the engine and he is just not a person capable of getting it started himself. It turns over fine and you can tell from the condition of the body and in fact the car as a whole, that it is in good shape overall. Prior to this current owner, it had been in storage for a few years so it has not run for 3 to 4 years. I believe the car came from Indiana.

Thanks for the questions and I hope this helps.

I see it’s a reserve auction. Any indication of an acceptable price would be helpful to all.

When was the engine last running?

    Is the engine damaged?

Is this a “no reserve” auction?

To clarify, the car is physically in Chicago, Illinois?
How does North Andover, Massachusetts relate this this sale?

What is the known history / life story of this example?

  • Silverstone (seller) 4 days, 19 hoursago

Hello everybody welcome to this auction and thank you for looking at this Isetta. The car is in really good condition. It just hasn’t been run for a couple of years. The engine turns fine and just needs to be recommissioned properly. The car is located in Chicago. If anyone would like to see it during this auction, please just ask we’ll be happy to set that up. Thank you and good luck.
