Available for auction is this 1957 Porsche 356A Speedster replica finished in Silver over a red vinyl interior. Originally built by Vintage Speedsters of California in 2014, this high-quality recreation spent time in Colorado while under the care of its original owner. It was acquired by the seller in 2022 from a dealer out of Missouri and features a 1915cc flat-four-cylinder engine paired with a 4-speed manual transmission as well as a Tri-mil exhaust system, 17” Cip1 wheels, a full tonneau cover, Coco floor mats, and more. This road-registered Speedster replica is now being offered for auction by its seller out of California.

The handcrafted fiberglass bodywork sits atop a Volkswagen chassis which is mated to a custom-built steel subframe. The car is finished in Silver with a black cloth top, matching tonneau cover, and side curtains. The seller notes a small imperfection near the front passenger side wheel well, and a few small rock chips at the lower front end. Additional images can be found in the gallery. Equipment includes dual side mirrors, front fog lights, mesh headlight guards, painted bumpers with chrome trim, dual exhaust outlets, and a set of 17” Cip 1 vintage wheels dressed in Bravuris tires from 2020.

The cabin features red vinyl upholstery on the seats, door cards, dashboard, and a handbrake boot with contrasting black carpets lining the floors. Amenities include a wood-rimmed steering wheel with a Porsche crested horn button and Coco floor mats. The seller confirms that all gauges and accessories remain functional and some wear is present on the vinyl upholstery.

Power comes from a 1915cc flat-four-cylinder engine which has been upgraded with an Engle W110 cam, a Tri-mil exhaust system, and an 8 Dowel crank and flywheel. The rear wheels are driven by way of a 4-speed manual transmission and stopping is handled by front disc and rear drum brakes. The seller notes that an oil and filter service was performed immediately after they acquired the car, a new battery was recently installed, and there are no other outstanding service items at this time.

This sale will include a clean title and California registration.

The seller would like you to know: "Full tonneau and half tonneau covers, plus side windows are almost never used. The car looks great, sounds great, and drives great."

Thanks everybody. I agree with the comment that at this price this is a steal! So I will keep it for now unless something happens in the DealTank.

@Grbrblue at the current price, yes! Though it’s got to be drastically under reserve.

replicaspeedster.com this looks like a nice example of a Vintage Speedster. Is this a steal? I am very interested.

  • pinot64 (seller) 1 year, 7 monthsago

And while we are in the last hour I am adding a car cover for those times when you want to leave the car sitting in the garage.

  • pinot64 (seller) 1 year, 7 monthsago

Bidders, I just noticed that the description missed another improvement done to the car: the two 40 carbs are Weber. According to many, they are better and last longer than Kadron, usually installed in these cars. All I know is that the car runs great!

We entered the last day of the auction and I know that there are bidders that prefer to wait until the last hour or so. Good luck everybody!

@TLarin Hi, thanks for your question. That scratch is very superficial.Nothing to be concerned about at all.

  • TLarin (registered bidder) 1 year, 7 monthsago

Seller, is the scratch on the right front quarter panel a surface/paint scratch or is it deeper into the the fiberglass?

Hello and thanks for your comments.
The car was built by Vintage Speedsters in 2014 and I am told they had a steady supply of these air-cooled VW rebuilt engines from reputable sources. Parts are widely available from several suppliers. CB Performance and JBugs are just two that come to mind.

  • flashnine1974 (registered bidder) 1 year, 7 monthsago

who made the engine and are their parts ready availiable

  • Damaho912 1 year, 7 monthsago

    Killer wheels!
