This 1956 Volkswagen Beetle Sunroof Coupe was kept tucked away in the original owner’s upstate New York barn for many years before it was subjected to a complete nut-and-bolt restoration about 10 years ago. The car is presented in its original Strato Silver color and features an upgraded Freeway Flyer transmission, Wilwood disc brakes, and Fox adjustable shock absorbers as well as a rebuilt motor featuring an Okrasa dual-port engine kit and an Abarth 356-style exhaust. Having been recently acquired the car from its original owner, this VW is now being offered for auction by its seller out of New Hampshire.
During the full restoration, this Beetle was refinished in its original color of Strato Silver while all trim pieces and hardware are said to have either been replaced or refurbished. Chrome brightwork includes the bumpers, moldings, antenna, headlight eyebrows, and driver’s side mirror. The car rides on factory 15” painted steel wheels dressed in BF Goodrich whitewall tires with early military-style KDF hubcaps. The seller describes the paint to remain in very good condition apart from some chips near the door hinges and lower fenders as well as some stress cracks on the roof and rear apron.
The cabin has been completely reupholstered with new grey, white, and blue material sourced from Germany. Accessories include a folding canvas soft top, a white three-spoke steering wheel, an opening safari-style windshield, and an Okrasa shift knob. The seller notes the original headlamp and turn signal switches function intermittently.
The car’s air-cooled four-cylinder motor is said to have been rebuilt by a specialist in Central Massachusetts and upgraded with a mild cam, an Abarth 356-style exhaust, and an Okrasa kit featuring dual-port heads, dual German carburetors, and an external oil cooler and oil filter. The car has also been lowered and fitted with a Lime Bugs front suspension beam, adjustable Fox shock absorbers, Wilwood disc brakes, new tie rods, kingpins, and a new steering box. It has been regularly maintained over the past 10 years following the restoration and was recently treated to an oil change, valve adjustment, and tune-up in preparation for sale.
This sale will include a toolkit, spare tire, and a clean title.

@vwprok37 hoping you could respond to my questions below before the auction ends.
Thank you.
I want to let veryone know that this car shows even better in person. I always get complements when ever I drive it. I once got stopped by the police just so they could take a look at it. It has gotten first place at many show's in Newengland and a few best of show. If anyone has any questions please don't hesitate to ask. I'm here watching the auction. Good luck and happy bidding!!
Beautiful car. Looks to have aftermarket rear fenders with the taillights sitting up so high ? Do we know if front fenders have been replaced and also, any thing to tell us if this is an original rag top car or was it grafted ? Very interesting in bidding if you have this information.
Thank you!
I just added photos of the new chrome bumper installed.

@zollerm Its the original 36hp engine so with the upgrades, cam, dual ports heads and carbs probably between 50-60hp. That's just a guess, never put it on a dyno...haha! I've had it up to 90mph once on the highway. She cruises really nice! The ride quality is very smooth too. Thanks for the question.
