Finished in Silver Metallic over a red leather interior, this 1956 Porsche 356A Coupe was the subject of a multi-year restoration that was completed in 2021 after the car had been kept in storage for over three decades. It is powered by a replacement 1,600cc flat-four engine that was rebuilt during the restoration including Mahle pistons and cylinders, overhauled Solex carburetors, and an upgraded Dansk muffler. It also features a rebuilt 4-speed manual transaxle, overhauled brakes, replacement shock absorbers, and a fully reupholstered leather interior. This 356A is now being offered for auction by its seller out of California accompanied by a Porsche Production Specifications Certificate.
This 356A Coupe wears Reutter bodywork that was refinished in its original Silver Metallic (5606) color during the restoration by SV Auto of Ontario, California, in 2021 along with a replacement battery box, left rocker panel, inner hood frame, floor pans, and fender liners. The restoration also included a new windshield, trim pieces, and body seals. The car is appointed with a driver’s side mirror, gold rear badging, body-colored bumpers, chrome bumperettes, and quad beehive taillights. It rides on 15” steel wheels with chrome Porsche-crested hubcaps and Vredestein Sprint Classic tires. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.
The cabin has been restored to its original appearance with new red leather upholstery and beige square weave carpets. Accessories include front bucket seats with lap belts, a folding rear bench with leather rear luggage straps, a locking glovebox, a dash-mounted ashtray, analog VDO gauges, a Porsche-branded radio compartment cover, and a re-cast ivory two-spoke steering wheel. The seller indicates the gauges were refurbished by North Hollywood Speedometer in 2018.
Power comes from a replacement 1,600cc flat-four engine that was rebuilt during the restoration with Mahle pistons and cylinders, new rod and crankshaft bearings, new valves, valve guides, valve springs, seats, resurfaced lifters, a resurfaced flywheel, a reground crankshaft and camshaft, and an upgraded Dansk muffler. The Solex 32 PCIB carburetors were overhauled along with the generator, starter, and distributor. The rear wheels are driven through a dual-mount 4-speed manual transaxle that was also rebuilt with replacement bearings, synchros, and gaskets. The shock absorbers were replaced, and the hydraulic drum brake system has been overhauled including a replacement master cylinder and wheel cylinders.
This sale will include an owner’s manual, a toolkit, restoration records, a Porsche Production Specifications Certificate, and a clean California title.

@Ricardo356 Thank you for your spot-on assessment. This is a very well sorted 356 that will provide somebody with many happy years of motoring.
Someone has put a great deal of time and effort into the restoration of this car, and it shows. It’s a very attractive example of a 56 coupe and although I can quibble with a few visible repro items if it really mattered, you could probably source certain original parts to upgrade. I’m sure it’s a great driver and going to give its new owner a great deal of satisfaction. Clearly the vendors involved in this restoration know what they are doing.
