This inaugural year Ford Thunderbird is finished in Torch Red over a two-tone black and white vinyl interior and comes equipped with a 4.8L V8 paired with a three-speed manual transmission. Having spent the majority of its life in Arizona and recently subjected to a full inspection, this 1955 Thunderbird is now being offered at auction.
The exterior is finished in Torch Red (70540) with a matching removable hardtop and a black fabric soft top. Details include a chrome front bumper, a chrome rear bumper with integrated exhaust outlets, chrome mirrors, chrome taillight fins, a hood scoop, fender louvers, and a fender-mounted antenna. The car was previously refinished and the seller notes minor faded spots in the paint where the hardtop meets the body, detailed images are provided in the gallery. The chrome 15” wire wheels are mounted with all-season whitewall tires.
The interior is upholstered in two-tone black and white vinyl with a front bench seat, matching door panels, red carpeting, and a black dash, accented with engine-turned aluminum trim on the dashboard face and door panels. Amenities include a glovebox, lap belts, a floor-mounted shifter, a heater, power windows, and an AM/FM radio. Air conditioning has been added as well as three auxiliary gauges below the dash for oil pressure, coolant temperature, and voltage.
The 1955 Thunderbird is powered by a 4.8L Y-Block V8, which was factory rated at 198 HP and 280 lb.-ft of torque. The rear wheels are driven by a 3-speed manual transmission with overdrive, allowing for acceleration from 0-60 MPH in 8.9 seconds and a top speed of around 100 MPH. The engine and transmission are said to be original to the vehicle, and a complete maintenance inspection was completed in anticipation of the sale.
