Developed by Maserati in 1947 as a two-seater racing car powered by an inline-six engine, the A6GCS won the 1948 Italian Championship driven by Giovanni Bracco at the wheel. Only 15 examples were produced between 1947 and 1953, including works racer chassis #2041, which was later converted to a 250F model renumbered as #2503 and raced by Harry Schell. This replica was purchased by the Wilson Collection from Barchetta Productions PTY LTD in Port Melbourne, Australia, in 2008 and rebuilt as a tribute to the original #2041 Maserati A6GCS lost to history. It features aluminum bodywork and an oval tube frame, while the tool-room replica engine, transmission, brakes, and suspension were constructed by the renowned specialists at Pur Sang in Argentina. Built with painstaking attention to detail and historical accuracy for a world-class private collection, this A6GCS replica is now being offered for auction out of Florida.

The car’s original chassis from Barchetta Productions was removed and replaced with a proper oval tube frame constructed by the Wilson Collection's team in 2013. The seller notes the frame was fabricated with excruciating detail to replicate the original construction, to the best of the team's ability. The car’s replica aluminum bodywork is finished in red and features a short windscreen, a chrome grille, and a polished fuel filler cap. It rides on genuine 16” Borrani wire wheels with Michelin 175/80 tires from 2013. The seller states the exterior is in excellent overall condition, apart from a minor chip near the driver’s door opening.

The bare open racing cockpit features low-back bucket seats in blue leather, a three-spoke wood-rimmed steering wheel, and a polished gated shifter assembly. Other accessories include a dashboard-mounted rearview mirror, replica Jaeger instrument dials, lap belts, and a fire extinguisher. All gauges and electrical systems are fully functional.

The car is powered by a replica 1,985cc inline-six engine featuring twin-plug ignition and a 4-speed manual transmission sourced from Pur Sang. The differential, brakes, suspension, and steering assembly are also period-correct recreations by Pur Sang. The seller notes some play in the steering wheel and a small hairline crack on the right front brake drum sleeve, which may need to be replaced.

This sale will include a vintage racing helmet, goggles, gloves, a Mille Miglia bag, and a clean Florida title for a 1953 Maserati.

The seller would like you to know: “Larry Wilson builds this car with the intention of paying homage to A6GCS chassis number 2041. Because the real chassis number 2041 was converted into a 250 F, it must have seemed fitting to Larry to have the replica built as a reference to that missing piece in history. He and his team worked hard to bring that car back to life as accurately as possible. With exceptional attention to detail, this example is accompanied by very few photo documentation and records, making it hard to know that it is exact to the nut and bolt, although it is an ideal replica. While some well-researched experts and passionate fans may be able to identify a few fine details that deviate from the original car, it is safe to say this Recreation A6GCS example truly embodies the spirit of the missing chassis number 2041."

Nothing wrong with Pur Sang Argentina, in my experience. But the description says certain parts were made and provided by them though?
Seems the car was done by Barchetta, and then the Wilson Collection made a new correct chassis, and replaced various running gear by that made by Pur Sang Argentina?
