The Super Eight was produced in Detriot, Michigan from 1933 to 1951 by the luxury automaker, Packard, and was known for its striaght-eight cylinder engine. This 1948 Packard Super Eight Coupe is said to have been fully restored and has been refinished in a two-tone dark green and creme exterior with a brown and creme leatherette interior. It is said to have originally resided in New Mexico before being moved to its current home in California, where it has participated in shows such as the San Marino Motor Classic. Reported to be a well-maintained and restored two-owner vehicle, this Super Eight Coupe is now being offered for auction by its seller out of California.
This restored Super Eight was refinished in a two-tone combination of dark green and creme. Exterior details include a 2-pane front window, chrome bumpers, chrome trimming that runs the length of the side skirts, chrome trimming that complements the swoop of the hood, rear wheel skirts, a cormorant hood ornament, a side-opening hood, and a driver’s side mirror. It rides on 15” steel wheels with chrome-finished Packard hubcaps and whitewall tires. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.
The interior has been restored and reupholstered in creme/brown leatherette with accenting burl wood trim along the dashboard and upper door panels. Interior details include front and rear bench seats, brown carpets, a creme 2-spoke steering wheel with chrome accents, a factory-correct radio, a locking glovebox, manual windows, and a left-sided ignition. The seller notes that the radio works intermittently, although all other accessories are working properly.
This Super Eight is powered by a 327ci straight eight-cylinder engine that sends power to the rear wheels through a 3-speed manual transmission with a “3-on-the-tree” configuration. The seller notes that it has been regularly maintained by a mechanic and its owner.
