The Indian Chief is one of the most iconic American motorcycles of the postwar era, featuring torquey V-twin performance and leaf-spring front suspension. Presenting matching engine and transmission numbers, this 1947 example is powered by a 1,200cc V-twin paired with a three-speed transmission and is finished in black and white. It features a foot-actuated clutch, a springer front fork, chrome trim, skirted fenders, 16” wire-spoke wheels, a black saddle with fringe and beaded accents, and more. Acquired from a museum in Vancouver, this Chief is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Canada.

This example is said to have been refinished in black and white under prior ownership. Exterior details include chrome trim, skirted fenders, Indian-scripted badging, an Indian-head fender ornament, and a Corbin speedometer integrated into the tank console. A black leather solo saddle with decorative studs and white fringe is mounted over a sprung post. Additional features include matching studded leather saddlebags with white fringe, a chrome rear luggage rack, and dual exhaust pipes with heat discoloration. It rides on 16” wire-spoke wheels wrapped in Coker whitewall tires. The seller notes the odometer is currently inoperative. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.

Power comes from a 1,200cc side-valve V-twin engine paired with a 3-speed hand-shift transmission with chain final drive. The engine cases and transmission are stamped with matching numbers. It features a springer front fork, a leading-link leaf-spring front suspension, a rear plunger-style suspension, and drum brakes at both ends. A heel-toe shifter is positioned on the left, and it is equipped with a foot-actuated clutch.

This sale will include a Canadian registration.

The seller would like you to know: “Original Indian Chief 1200 cc. Post WW2 iconic bike, Museum Quality You can Daily Drive. Comes with original matching Saddle bags will brighten any Collection.”
